Montserrat Football Association Appoints Dr. Gabriel Calderón Pellegrino as Technical Consultant and Head Coach of Senior Men’s National Team

The Montserrat Football Association (MFA), under the leadership of its Normalisation Committee, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Gabriel Calderón Pellegrino as Technical Consultant of the MFA and Head Coach of the Senior Men’s National Team.
Holder of a UEFA Pro Coach Licence and also of a PhD in Sports Sciences, Dr. Gabriel Calderon brings extensive international experience in football coaching, technical development and coach education, having worked with clubs, national associations and leading football organisations across Europe, Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America. His football career includes technical and educational roles with FIFA, LaLiga, Real Madrid, universities and professional clubs, where he has helped develop coaches, players and football structures.
Among his prior roles and responsibilities Dr. Gabriel Calderon also served as Technical Consultant to the Haitian Football Federation, contributing to the development of its technical and national teams programme during one of the country’s most successful periods, culminating in qualification for the FIFA World Cup. As a FIFA Technical Expert, he also contributed to complete as part of FIFA’s “Increasing Global Competitiveness Report” a country specific analysis of the talent development ecosystem in Montserrat in 2019.
In Montserrat, Dr. Calderon will lead, oversee and support the continued development of a durable football strategy and the restructuring across the Association’s sporting area including domestic football, as well as national team programmes from youth to senior categories, for both genders. His work will focus on strengthening the technical framework of the game through player development, talent identification, national team planning, coaching education and the implementation of sustainable football structures aligned with FIFA and Concacaf best practices.
Working closely with the General Secretariat, Gabriel will provide strategic technical guidance to support the implementation of the Association’s football development objectives, while helping to establish clear pathways for our boys and girls and sustainable programmes that will strengthen football in Montserrat for years to come.
As part of his appointment, Dr. Calderón will also serve as Head Coach of the Montserrat Senior Men’s National Team, providing technical leadership and management as preparations begin for the upcoming Concacaf Nations League campaign. He will lead with the coaching staff and players to prepare the team for international competition while embedding the standards and culture that will underpin the Association’s long-term vision.
Speaking on his appointment, Mr. Calderon said:
“I am proud to begin this project with the Montserrat Football Association. We know there is tremendous potential for growth and, while we are realistic about the challenges ahead, we will work with ambition, professionalism and commitment to build something special for the future of football in Montserrat.”
The appointment forms part of the MFA’s wider strategy to strengthen its football structures, enhance technical capacity and establish sustainable systems that will support the development of boys, girls, senior players and coaches, from grassroots football through to the national teams.
The Montserrat Football Association warmly welcomes Gabriel Calderon and looks forward to working together to build a stronger future for Montserrat football on the island and national team programmes from grassroots to senior, inclusive of its diaspora.
