Goals: Barzey 58′, Taylor 67′, Taylor 71′
Montserrat followed up their opening win over the Turks and Caicos Islands with a 3-0 victory over the British Virgin Islands, scoring all three goals in a 13-minute spell after the break.
Montserrat created most of the first-half chances but couldn’t convert them. Lyle Taylor had three efforts blocked in one scramble around the 19th minute, and Ashley Boatswain twice forced saves from BVI goalkeeper Frankie Beckles. The BVI’s best moments came from a Tyler Forbes shot and a Luka Chalwell header, and Trent Carter-Rogers saved both in the Montserrat goal. The teams went in level at 0-0.
The breakthrough came in the 58th minute. Following a set piece, Brandon Barzey reacted quickest to a rebound and drove his shot from a tight angle on the right into the bottom corner. Nine minutes later Taylor doubled the lead with a first-time right-footed finish from the centre of the box, set up by Nico Gordon. In the 71st minute Taylor completed his brace with a close-range header from Brandon Comley’s assist.
Beckles had to leave the game injured in the second half and was replaced by Toby Whiteside in the 76th minute. Montserrat made a series of changes late on and saw the game out comfortably. The win keeps them unbeaten after two matches in the group.
